If you are totally new to interview puzzles, It may be that you will not be able to solve puzzles and think where to start with.
Mainly for Technical Positions puzzles and brain teaser is the most important factor deciding the result. So to start with prepration make daily routine with friend circle to ask each other lot of puzzles. Eventually with time, indeed you see yourself getting better at it.
Practice every single day, maybe just a question or 2. But this will take you a long way!
Make it a hobie or a fun solving puzzles and sharing more and more with friends to get huge varasity of puzzles.
When answering a brain teaser question you should always ensure that you have clarified any information you’re not clear on. You should also take a moment or two to really think about the question - they are designed to be confusing and many candidates panic and say the first answer that comes into their heads.
As the interviewer is looking to see how you think, rationalise and deal with complex problems, you should also explain your thought process so the interviewer can see the logic behind it. Remember - in some cases there is no right answer, and a creative and logical approach is far more important than trying to second-guess the answer in the interviewer's head.
As brainteaser questions are deliberately complex, it’s a good idea to practice them before the interview, to prepare you for the kind of questions you’re going to see.
Often, the questions you encounter will fall into these three categories:
Questions based around riddles:
- How many golf balls can fit in a school bus?
- A man pushed his car to a hotel and lost his fortune, what happened?
There are no right answers to these questions, instead you are being tested on your ability to think logically and creatively and to come up with an answer with a clear thought process.
Questions based around ‘how many?’:
- How many pieces of steak are eaten in the UK every Wednesday?
- How many French polishers are there in the entire world?
Again, it is not expected you will get the correct answer - in fact, it is likely the interviewer doesn’t know the answer either. Instead, these questions are used to test your ability to use general knowledge and estimation to arrive at a rational conclusion. Make sure you show your working out and talk the interviewer through your thought process, so they can see your thinking.
Questions based on numeracy:
Two mothers and two daughters sit down to eat eggs for breakfast. They ate three eggs and each person at the table ate an egg. Explain how.If Miss White has three kittens from the same litter and one is a male, what is the likelihood that at least one of the other kittens is a female?
Asked in the form of a story or riddle or as a question featuring a sequence of numbers, these questions test your ability to use maths to arrive at an answer to a complex problem. Again, make sure you show your working out and explain how you arrived at your answer.
